"Inspired by the true story of a teen who was killed at a railway crossing, the author weaves the tale of fourteen-year-old Paige, who, taking a shortcut alongside the tracks to avoid the school bullies, is tragically hit by a train and transported to a surreal world where she encounters Kim, who died seven years before. Convinced she is only dreaming, Paige must discover a way to return to her former life. Poignant, gripping, and full of unexpected twists and turns, Best Friends through Eternity will resonate with readers who have struggled with cultural identity, a sense of belonging, and the real meaning of home" goodreads.com
I received an ARC copy of this book from the publisher Tundra Books via Netgalley, for an honest review. I am not being paid in any way these are my honest and real opinions on this book. Best Friends through Eternity by Sylvia McNicoll is set to be released on February 10th 2015.
Best Friends through Eternity is categorized as children's fiction and young adult. It is written very simple, and short but it also deals with death so I understand it being listed under both categories. I snapped this up thinking it would be more like The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold but, it wasn't. This book is more like groundhog day, the main character Paige is struck by a train and is stuck in limbo where they allow her to return to earth over and over to fix her mistakes.
I did enjoy it even though it was a short read, it was a nice filler between the very long novels I have been reading, but it didn't really live up to the expectations I had for it. I found the real moral of this story is bullying, I think.. to be perfectly honest it isn't really that clear. There is a lot going on but at the same time all of it really isn't that important. I felt like I was being thrown a bunch of random information that made no impact on the actual story. Plus the title really doesn't fit with the book.
I gave this book three stars because I was able to read it quite fast, and even though it was probably a book I could have gone without reading it was ok. Short but sweet. One thing I did enjoy about this book, is that it was set in Canada!
Again thank you Netgalley and Tundra books for allowing me to read and review this book!
